God's Timing

Well, like I said, we had a great weekend. On Friday evening, Jason and I decided to turn the phones off, move ourselves out on the patio, and spend time with just us, talking. The baby was asleep, so out came the monitor. We sat out and talked for a good three hours, kind of like we used to when we were first dating. It was a beautiful night, I had redone the patio, so why not??

I think this is very important to do in a marriage. Just spend time with one another, and not with your phones in your hands or in front of the television. Like, spend real time. It's amazing what you miss during the day to day about how your partner feels or thinks about stuff. Or what is really going on in their life, even when you live with them every single day!

On Saturday, we went to Gigi and Pops. Jason and I were supposed to go to the movies so we were going to drop Avery off and leave, but we decided, why? They have cable, they have a media room, they have microwave popcorn and sodas. So, we went upstairs, just he and I, and watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We stopped the movie to visit Avery downstairs and she was about ready to pass out. Pops was holding her on the patio and she kept drifting off. We were trying to keep her up a little while longer, because it was only 6:30, but she wasn't having it. Cutie Pie.

Sunday, we both had to work at church. The youth choir was singing that morning, so I just worked in the nursery and didn't do choir. We went grocery shopping, came home, I made some stir fry, and we basically just baked and watched TV. Poor Avery got the scratch from a certain overzealous dog named Molly on her eye. Avery screamed bloody murder, poor thing. I hit Molly, but I felt bad because Molly knew right away what she did, so me hitting her didn't really help. I never hit those dogs, so I felt really badly and spent about 20 minutes hugging on Molly to make it up to her. She didn't mean to, she was barely pawing at Avery and of course, she loves her, she was just wanting attention. This is the life of having a dog, I guess. Things like this happen. I just hated that she got scratched on her eye.

But the BEST part of my weekend was watching these two. Avery loves her Daddy and her Daddy loves her. She is starting to stand up with her legs so when Jason pulls her up, she just laughs and smiles, and appears so proud of herself for doing something new! He will pull her in and kiss her, and she loves it. Have I mentioned how great my husband is lately? Because he is. Fantastic. Wonderful. Supportive. Great Dad. All of it.

Something else happened this weekend too, my sister found out she was pregnant a few weeks ago, but when she went to the doctor last week, things weren't looking good. They lost the heartbeat on Friday. I feel very, very badly for her. That must be such a bad feeling. You can read about her experience here.

Sometimes, God's timing just isn't our timing. And you know what? Sometimes, it really stinks. As much as we want things to work out, they don't. As much as we want something to work out a certain way, it doesn't work out exactly like we'd hope. And sometimes, we will never, ever know the reason why. But, God knows stuff we don't know, so as little comfort as it can sometimes be, we just have to hang in there and keep the faith, and know it's all for a reason.

I love you Brookie. Things will be OK.

What is Your Skin Care Regimen?

Since turning 34 this year, I've been really trying to make sure I am taking care of my skin. I have been using Cover Girl Liquid Powder for years, but it always seemed to break my neck out. And full disclosure, my face cleaning routine consisted of using Avery's baby wipes (which actually do remove eye makeup surprisingly well). So, needless to say, my skin didn't always look its best.   So, I received some gift cards for my birthday and I decided to go ahead and spring for some better products. First thing I did was get something designed to clean my face. I ordered the Olay ProX Microdermabrasion System.     This system came with the battery-operated scrubber with both a brush and foam pad, plus every day face wash and microdermabrasion wash to be used twice a week. I have really loved using this system. The beauty is that you can really use any face wash you'd like. I will probably buy a pore-reducing wash after the tube they sent me is empty. This syst...

Why I am Pro Universal Healthcare and Changes to Our Healthcare System

Due to my recent proactivity with my credit and paying off debt, I decided to give the hospital a call where I was admitted about a month ago and ask about my bill. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the mail and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be paying for my stay. I get on the phone with the billing department and the woman is just as nice as can be, really. She was surprised I'd even called her, considering I didn't even have a bill yet. She told me she'd sent the bill over to my insurance to be approved and paid but they hadn't heard back yet. "Just out of curiosity," I asked, knowing I would be responsible for 20% of the final bill, "how much was it?" What I heard next shocked me.   "$61,000" she said.   I said, "$61,000? I was only in the hospital for a night and only on anti-biotics, you can't be serious! My daughter cost me less than a third of that to give birth to and I was in the hospital two nights!...

Guess Who Has A New Potty???

This girl!! Jason and I took Avery to Target tonight to find a potty chair. We didn't know what kind to get. When we got there, she loved the Sesame Street one. It's the kind that sits on the toilet, not an actual chair. I've heard both reasonings on a chair and a pad for the real toilet. On one hand, the chairs are little and easier for them to sit on and they aren't scary to flush. On the other, the pad doesn't require you to have to clean out a chair and they teach kids to sit on the big potty from the get go. What it really came down to was that we just don't have a big bathroom at all, so keeping an actual chair in the bathroom would have been hard. So we got the pad. It has a little hook that you attach to the tank, so you can hang the pad on it. I love this! I have no intention of actually potty training Avery full out, just yet. I don't think she is ready. But I have heard it's good to have one that they can practice sitting on and get u...
