The Wonderful World of Repurposing

Since I've started reading blogs, I have learned so much about so much. And there are LISTS of things in my head that I want to try, from cooking to sewing to painting, decor to clothes, and on and on. But, I can only do so much at once, so I have to really say, "I can't start that now, but I will keep it in mind." The first thing I had to do was redo the kids rooms. So, I learned this:

You really can redo old furniture with paint. Instead of spending tons of money on new stuff, you can paint the old stuff for little to nothing. And since you are using old furniture you probably don't care about reuining anyway, if you don't like the paint, you can paint it again. And again. Until it becomes something that you like. Jordan's room is a prime example: I am not in LOVE with the furniture, but I am not done with it yet. Guess what? I NEVER have to be done with it. I love that since all of that stuff was pretty much just junk, I can change it as many times as I want and it doesn't matter! I see old furniture in my house that I do not like and think, I can TOTALLY make that look cool again!

The second thing I am really getting into is repurposing. The thing about repurposing is that the options are ENDLESS of what you can use and what you can create. I have told you all we are broke and can't really afford to replace each and every thing in my apartment. But we seem to have alot of junk that just sits around, from clothes to pillows to broken furniture. SO I look at my whole apartment as a STORE now! It is actually pretty cool because I want to see all of the cool stuff I can make and do, now that I am learning how.

I would really like to repurpose some of my old clothes. I cannot tell you how many shirts and pants and skirts I have in my closet that I don't wear, for one reason or another. I don't know how to sew, but I asked my mom yesterday if she would teach me. In the meantime, I think there are some things I can do with stitch witch and safety pins. I want to see if I can transform the stuff I have into stuff I like and can wear without spending too much money. I got this great idea from this site Freckles in April.

She used an old sweater and made it into a cardigan. I have so many things that are too big because of weight I've gained from being pregnant (or that I wore while pregnant) that don't fit anymore and I think I can do this project without sewing. And like she says, if you are already NOT wearing and it gets ruined, who cares?

Another site I like is la vie petite. She has had to learn to make clothes fit her because she is so tiny, so she sews great pieces. I think I can learn alot from her. She takes alot of neat chances with her wardrobe and always seems to look so PUT TOGETHER. I want to look put together again.

I love the world blogging has opened up for me. I am starting to really have a home I love to live in, and now, maybe I can start to have one of a kind fashion pieces that can make my wardrobe one I love to live in, too!

It was a very good day.

I love it when God smiles upon us. I mean, He smiles upon us all the time. But sometimes, it's like sunshine, and Christmas morning, and rainbows, and babies, and awesomeness. On steroids. And I know that those times are not always permanent, so I learn to really wrap myself in His goodness, to take it all in, be happy, and just sit back and wait to see what He is going to do in my life. We have been struggling so long. I knew it was only a matter of time before things would be OK again. Where we would feel a little stability. Where we would take all of the things we learned while struggling and apply then when times are good. We have alot of great things going on in our lives right now. Some really great things. Some amazing, mindblowing, off the grid kind of great things. I wish I could share more, but for right now, let's just say that we are incredibly blessed with some great opportunities God is putting in our lives. I leave you with a gorgeous picture of our biggest bl

What is Your Skin Care Regimen?

Since turning 34 this year, I've been really trying to make sure I am taking care of my skin. I have been using Cover Girl Liquid Powder for years, but it always seemed to break my neck out. And full disclosure, my face cleaning routine consisted of using Avery's baby wipes (which actually do remove eye makeup surprisingly well). So, needless to say, my skin didn't always look its best.   So, I received some gift cards for my birthday and I decided to go ahead and spring for some better products. First thing I did was get something designed to clean my face. I ordered the Olay ProX Microdermabrasion System.     This system came with the battery-operated scrubber with both a brush and foam pad, plus every day face wash and microdermabrasion wash to be used twice a week. I have really loved using this system. The beauty is that you can really use any face wash you'd like. I will probably buy a pore-reducing wash after the tube they sent me is empty. This syst

Dancing With Dad

I have been working on a project these last couple of weeks for my previous company. Yesterday, I was working on my computer and heard roaring laughter coming from Avery's room. I walk in and found Jason and Avery dancing and singing away.   By sheer coincidence, this popped up on my Timehop today. Avery was only 1 in this picture. Boy, are these kiddos lucky to have such a great dad! It makes me heart melt.
