Before and After: Desk

So, remember how I told you that I was really into turquoise accents lately? Well, I couldn't get it out of my head. So, I had to return some spray paint to Walmart anyway, and I just exchanged it for some blue. "What can I paint?" I thought.... Then, it came to me! My desk! I am just so tired of black and tan everywhere. Mainly black. So, even though it just went from this to this in December... I decided to move its' location and give it a new outfit! So this little corner went from this... to this! I am in love!

Table Staining Preview Teaser

I've been so busy working on my dining room. I feel like I have done so much work on it, and it's finally coming together! I am so excited. I have redone my entire dining room for less than $100, which makes me feel so proud! I've also redone my stepsons room for less than $30, we got my stepdaughter a new to us bed for less than $20, all thanks to Craigslist and garage sales (and a little elbow grease). I am actually becoming quite obsessed with it. So, I used a product to stain the top of the dining table called General Finishes Gel Stain . I chose gel stain mainly because I read reviews that it was super easy to use and it didn't smell the place up. I can safely say these reviews were spot on! The stain was the consistancy of chocolate pudding (and even looked like it!) so it didn't splatter. It also didn't require a brush and perfect application. I read some instructions from bloggers who instructed us to use a men's athletic sock to apply. We tried

Kids In the Hood....

This whole weekend has kind of been a blur. Friday, my friend Kate came down to hang out with me. I was SOOO excited to see her. She still lives in McKinney and now that I moved away from there, we don't get to see each other nearly as often. She drove down and spent the night. Even my sister Leslie got to hang out with us! We went to Louie Louie's Dueling Piano Bar, and I can't remember the last time I laughed so much. It was great fun! We caught up at dinner, but then we just went and had a good time! At the end of the night, we were all drinking coke, water, and taking Tylenol. My, how things change after you turn 30. Saturday was my work picnic. It was HOT! Avery hung in there though. We went to this cool park in Irving that had a really neat playground. If it hadn't been so hot, it would have been awesome! She gets the rosiest cheeks, always has! She even played some games with Daddy! "I'm HOT Mom!" Saturday night was Co

Jordan's Dresser, Before and After

A little before and after dresser action this morning, for you? By the way, I am now in love with Rustoleum Metallic Finish Silver Spray Paint. After painting these handles, and seeing how smooth that paint went on, I am just LOOKING for more stuff to paint like that.

Little Miss Two Year Old. Well, mentally, anyway.

I am sure many of you are wondering how it could have been so long since I've taken a picture of my daughter. Ok, so many of you probably haven't given it a second thought. But I wanted to prove I HAVE tried! Isn't she adorable? :-) The blur tends to visit regularly. You can really tell in this picture that she wasn't happy. That's because lately, any time I try to get her to do ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING she doesn't want to do, on come the water works, she throws herself on the floor and just starts to whine and cry. (I really don't know where she got that behavior from. Certainly wasn't me.) My mom made her this adorable outfit and Avery wouldn't give me a smile to save my life! We were in the car waiting for Jason to pump some gas, and I thought, "while you are constrained and unable to throw yourself on the floor, I am taking pictures of you, little girl!" She is very obviously and loudly asserting her independence these d

Home Decor Loves and Hates

So, lately, I've been doing lots of stuff to the furniture in my house. I am working on several projects. The problem with doing all of those projects is that creativity spurs on MORE projects. So, it got me to thinking about some home decor trends that I keep seeing and I am loving and want in my house and some trends I see now that I have no interest in putting in my home. LOVE: Color! Right now, I need some color in my house. Particularly, I am intrigued by turquoise touches with dark glaze. HATE: Antlers. I don't get this trend, at all. LOVE: Gold accents in white rooms HATE: Union Jack. I don't HATE it, I just don't like it in my house. Although, this dresser is pretty cool. LOVE: Chevron and stripes. I am trying to figure out how to do a garage sale dresser I got for Jordan's room like this, somehow... HATE: Beachy decor. Once again, don't hate it, it's just not my style. LOVE: Distressing and glaze. This is the coolest, easiest wa
