House Pics - Some Befores and Afters

We had a little get together at our house last night - I love having people over when you have things to do in a house. It's a great way to complete projects, for sure.

Did I take pictures of this alleged get together? No. I am sad about that.

Anyway, I thought I would post some more pics of how the house is coming along.

I've put myself on a house purchasing diet for the next several weeks. It's really easy to rack up the bucks when buying stuff for a new house. I needed a formal living room set, and put some money aside and found one. That's the last purchase I will make for a while, I think.

Here is the space pre-move in...

Here is the space now.

Before...

After...

I really wanted something homey, and no TV in this space. My mom helped me come up with the arrangement and got me that great "W" for the wall. I got the ladder shelf at a garage sale for $10 and kept it exactly as is.

As you can see from the above picture, there were sheer white drapes over this wall of windows. I am sure when they put them up, they were very expensive. But they really date the room and were starting to not look good. I kept thinking I needed curtains there, but just taking them down and letting the windows show has been a huge improvement.

The piano is right by the entry way and looks great here.

The dining room is also coming along.

I can envision a really pretty buffet to the left, under the mirror, but like I said, I am done with furniture for a little while. It's funtional and fine the way it is for now.

These windows also had those sheer drapes on a track curtain rod. I will tell you, my curtains I've made have fit PERFECTLY into this house. These curtains updated this room 110%.

You see the circle of leaves in the middle of the table? Well, that was my Pinterest fail, via "pool noodle duck taped to make a wreath." It was not a good circle, first of all, and I think the hot glued leaves will tell you I am horrible at making wreaths. I had all of the materials, but for a really pretty wreath, I had to bring in the big guns. My mother.

No lie, like 30 minutes later, this is what she "whipped up."

No way mine would have looked anything like that. I am getting pretty creative and can do alot of stuff, but my mom is always a great eye for stuff and can pull something out of nothing.

This is probably my new favorite wall in the house...

I had some extra printables, so we added a little to the window for the party.

One more before and after...

This is our breakfast nook. It's a cool little area! I got this little table and chairs on CL. It's a little TOO small for the room, but for now, it will do.

It definitely looks better this way...

Those are all pictures from the Pumpkin Patch last year and printables I found on Pinterest. The silver is a Halloween decoration.

And here are our tacky-but-we-love-them-anyway light fixtures, dressed up for the party.

I have more pictures to share, but that's it for now!

That "Thing" in That Basket Isn't a Baby, You Know That, Right?

I have had the most horrible case of writer's block lately! With that said, I saw this article on Babycenter and I just had to write something about it.   So, we've heard of the trend of eating the placenta after birth . We've heard of the trend of putting them in pill form to get the nutrients . But this? This to me, is just the craziest of them all.   As a group of beings on this planet, I've never seen any other mammal who evolves to get to a certain place, then de-evolves on purpose, to be more "natural." I am sure I am seriously about to put my foot in my mouth, I am sure there are (some) people out there that I might offend with my "closed-mindedness" on this topic. But this is just, well, ridiculous to me.   Basically, after the placenta comes out, instead of cutting the cord and detaching it from the baby, you leave the placenta on, they salt it to help with the decomp process, add rosemary (I am guessing for the smell?), then p...

Why I am Pro Universal Healthcare and Changes to Our Healthcare System

Due to my recent proactivity with my credit and paying off debt, I decided to give the hospital a call where I was admitted about a month ago and ask about my bill. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the mail and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be paying for my stay. I get on the phone with the billing department and the woman is just as nice as can be, really. She was surprised I'd even called her, considering I didn't even have a bill yet. She told me she'd sent the bill over to my insurance to be approved and paid but they hadn't heard back yet. "Just out of curiosity," I asked, knowing I would be responsible for 20% of the final bill, "how much was it?" What I heard next shocked me.   "$61,000" she said.   I said, "$61,000? I was only in the hospital for a night and only on anti-biotics, you can't be serious! My daughter cost me less than a third of that to give birth to and I was in the hospital two nights!...

Some Changes...

We've been going through a bit of a transition at the Whitehead household the last month or so. I haven't really talked too much about it because I wasn't ready, to be honest. It's just a lot of change and I've been trying to figure it out in my head.   As of three weeks ago last Friday, I am no longer a full time work out of home employee.   I can't believe I just said that.   It's been the plan for several months now for me to go into real estate and it was always assumed I'd be doing that part time, while keeping my full time job. Plans kind of changed when Jason got his promotion. He'd always has a job that allowed him a lot of flexibility. In sales, especially after you've been in a position for a while, it just sort of happens that way. He could take Avery to daycare and pick her up, he could take her to doctor's appointments, he could even do chores around the house in the afternoon, while I was at work. I had some flexibi...
