New Blog Challenge

Ok, I only said I was going to watch cable....when I saw this on my sister's blog, I thought I needed to go ahead and do it. I really do like blog challenges because it gives me something to write about. Since I haven't done a project in a while, this would be a good place to start! I am in a writing kind of mood, so I will just start from Day 1 and go to Day 3, since I kind of started behind - shouldn't be too hard! Here is the blog link, if you are interested.....

Day One - Introduce Yourself!

My name is Jenna and I am a 31 year old married mother of 3 who also works a full time time, who is also a Christian, who is an avid dog owner and who is also a little overweight.

Did I mention everything?

Seriously, I am 31 years old and married to my best friend. His name is Jason and he came to me with two kiddos, Jordan, 9 and Sophia, 6. VERY shortly after we were married, I found out he had given me another gift - a baby, to arrive in 9 months. She is Avery Grace and she is 9 months old. We also have two dogs, Bella and Molly.

If you'd have told me the year I turned 29 that this would have been my life 3 years later, I would have told you that you were nuts. I knew I wanted to get married, eventually, and that I might want to have kids, maybe. The year I turned 29 was a hard one. I felt my 20's slipping away, with no prospects in mind for marriage anywhere on the horizon. Enter Jason, who just so happened to be a long time friend of mine, my first boyfriend when I was 12 to be exact, and the rest is history. Up until that point, my life was very much a single girl's life. I really loved to go out and be with my friends, I really liked being single, in the aspect that I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. When I met Jason, that slowed down a bit but we still liked to have fun together. Then, when I got pregnant, I also turned 30 and realized that I didn't like to do those things so much anymore. I would much rather be on the couch, watching a movie with my husband than anything else. I make time for going out, just once in a while. It tires me out too much.

I love being a mother and I didn't really know if I would. When I found out I was pregnant, I didn't really know what to think about it. I was excited, but also very scared about how much it would change my life. Luckily, I have the best baby on the planet and I fell in love from the get go. I love being her mother and I love being a step mother, although that hasn't always been easy, But it's been an incredible journey that I didn't expect but am so glad God started me out on.

Day 2 - Tell Us About Your Blog

My blog has been around for a long time, I started it when Jason and I first started dating. It wasn't until this year, when I had Avery, that I updated it on a regular basis. I try to do it every day, but it hasn't been the last few weeks since I started a new job. I don't know, I just forget. But anyway, I really started getting into it more because I had a desire to write and I also had a desire to chronicle my family's life together. As I started blogging more, I started reading other people's blogs and so now, it has also turned into a place where I can show off a creative side I never even knew I had. So, I guess my blog is just a little bit of lots of things.

Day 3 - Tell Us About Your Job

My job is still new, I just finished my fourth week this week. My job was kind of a surprise, I wasn't looking to change jobs but it was presented to me and I thought it sounded interesting, although I think I would have been too intimidated to apply for it on my own. I work for an engineering company as an admin assistant and the majority of my day is spent assisting engineers on projects, proposals, reports, and applications for various clients. I have actually learned alot about engineering, air quality, pollutants, EPA and TCEQ regulations, and other things I never expected to learn. I really don't need to know any of this to do my job, I have to know alot of Microsoft Word to do my job. But what I love about it is that any time I want to learn something new and educational, I work with people who are more than willing to teach me. It really is cool for someone like me, a closet nerd, who loves to ask endless amounts of questions. That is, until they start talking to me about algorithms and mathmatical equations. No offense guys, but snooze.

Why I am Pro Universal Healthcare and Changes to Our Healthcare System

Due to my recent proactivity with my credit and paying off debt, I decided to give the hospital a call where I was admitted about a month ago and ask about my bill. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the mail and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be paying for my stay. I get on the phone with the billing department and the woman is just as nice as can be, really. She was surprised I'd even called her, considering I didn't even have a bill yet. She told me she'd sent the bill over to my insurance to be approved and paid but they hadn't heard back yet. "Just out of curiosity," I asked, knowing I would be responsible for 20% of the final bill, "how much was it?" What I heard next shocked me.   "$61,000" she said.   I said, "$61,000? I was only in the hospital for a night and only on anti-biotics, you can't be serious! My daughter cost me less than a third of that to give birth to and I was in the hospital two nights!...

Some Changes...

We've been going through a bit of a transition at the Whitehead household the last month or so. I haven't really talked too much about it because I wasn't ready, to be honest. It's just a lot of change and I've been trying to figure it out in my head.   As of three weeks ago last Friday, I am no longer a full time work out of home employee.   I can't believe I just said that.   It's been the plan for several months now for me to go into real estate and it was always assumed I'd be doing that part time, while keeping my full time job. Plans kind of changed when Jason got his promotion. He'd always has a job that allowed him a lot of flexibility. In sales, especially after you've been in a position for a while, it just sort of happens that way. He could take Avery to daycare and pick her up, he could take her to doctor's appointments, he could even do chores around the house in the afternoon, while I was at work. I had some flexibi...

That "Thing" in That Basket Isn't a Baby, You Know That, Right?

I have had the most horrible case of writer's block lately! With that said, I saw this article on Babycenter and I just had to write something about it.   So, we've heard of the trend of eating the placenta after birth . We've heard of the trend of putting them in pill form to get the nutrients . But this? This to me, is just the craziest of them all.   As a group of beings on this planet, I've never seen any other mammal who evolves to get to a certain place, then de-evolves on purpose, to be more "natural." I am sure I am seriously about to put my foot in my mouth, I am sure there are (some) people out there that I might offend with my "closed-mindedness" on this topic. But this is just, well, ridiculous to me.   Basically, after the placenta comes out, instead of cutting the cord and detaching it from the baby, you leave the placenta on, they salt it to help with the decomp process, add rosemary (I am guessing for the smell?), then p...
