Mother's Day 2018

We just had a lovely, lovely day.

I got a card, a new plant that Avery grew at school (which I fully intend to keep alive), a shrinky dink magnet, and a book about me!

My favorite is that she said I am really good at being myself. I feel like that's very intuitive for a 7 year old.

Next, we went to church in our adorable t-shirts that I just had to have! She is my mini me for sure - if not in looks, in personality!

We spent the day poolside at Brookes, being entertained by the cutest girl in the world who goes by the name Landri.

I really don't get sucked in to cuteness often - but this little girl has me WRAPPED.

This was my first Mother's Day as a single mom. I have had many first single holidays in the last 7 months - first New Years Eve, birthday, Valentine's Day, our anniversary - but this one was my favorite because I am reminded of the most perfect thing we did together - Avery. In January, I got this Mom and Me Journal and we do it before bed. Not every night, but we've almost made it through the whole thing. They have tons of these for all age groups online. We concluded our night by doing an entry and then doing our photo shoot.

My daughter is truly amazing. She is strong, resilient, loving, kind, social, smart, witty and beautiful inside and out. I looked at her today, and thought "Even though our lives were torn apart - you and me little girl - we are making it and thriving every day." She is just amazing. Everything I do these days, I do for her. And it's my absolute dream to do so.

I haven't seen Jordan and Sophia in a while, and I hope that changes very soon. I talk to them all the time. And for the first time in 9 years, their mom and I exchanged Happy Mother's Day greetings with one another. I'm truly thankful she's shared her kiddos with me all these years, and am even more thankful that in the midst of a crummy situation, she and I have formed a friendship. I see, now, how hard it has been for her to share her two beautiful kids with another woman. When I have moments, I'm able to reach out to her and she provides me encouragement or sympathy, whichever the situation calls for. I know that Jordan and Sophia will be all the better because of it, and it's just a blessing out of all this I wasn't expecting.

Happy Mothers Day - to moms who are married, moms who are single, moms who are stepmoms, moms who share their kids with stepmoms. moms with kids who are grown, moms who aren't moms quite yet (in the literal sense), expectant moms, moms who are not biological but are moms just the same (aunts, friends, etc) and all moms in between. It takes a village, and I'm glad for all of you out there who help me everyday!

Guess Who Has A New Potty???

This girl!! Jason and I took Avery to Target tonight to find a potty chair. We didn't know what kind to get. When we got there, she loved the Sesame Street one. It's the kind that sits on the toilet, not an actual chair. I've heard both reasonings on a chair and a pad for the real toilet. On one hand, the chairs are little and easier for them to sit on and they aren't scary to flush. On the other, the pad doesn't require you to have to clean out a chair and they teach kids to sit on the big potty from the get go. What it really came down to was that we just don't have a big bathroom at all, so keeping an actual chair in the bathroom would have been hard. So we got the pad. It has a little hook that you attach to the tank, so you can hang the pad on it. I love this! I have no intention of actually potty training Avery full out, just yet. I don't think she is ready. But I have heard it's good to have one that they can practice sitting on and get u...

Some Changes...

We've been going through a bit of a transition at the Whitehead household the last month or so. I haven't really talked too much about it because I wasn't ready, to be honest. It's just a lot of change and I've been trying to figure it out in my head.   As of three weeks ago last Friday, I am no longer a full time work out of home employee.   I can't believe I just said that.   It's been the plan for several months now for me to go into real estate and it was always assumed I'd be doing that part time, while keeping my full time job. Plans kind of changed when Jason got his promotion. He'd always has a job that allowed him a lot of flexibility. In sales, especially after you've been in a position for a while, it just sort of happens that way. He could take Avery to daycare and pick her up, he could take her to doctor's appointments, he could even do chores around the house in the afternoon, while I was at work. I had some flexibi...

Just a little bathroom project....

Raise your hand if this is what your bathroom looks like after every round of baths at your house????
