A Project: Before

I wanted to give you a little back story as to how 2 parents, 3 kids, and 2 big dogs wound up in a 3 bedroom apartment for going on 2 years.

For starters, we didn't know where we needed to live, city-wise. The kids' mom was moving somewhere and we had no idea where, so we were nervous to make a big move blind. We also didn't have a lot of money to move into a rental house, as Jason had lost his job in January, plus we had a wedding coming up, so I was not a fan of throwing more stress on us by purchasing a home. Both of our leases were almost up, so we had to decided pretty fast. We both loved my apartment community, it was new and safe and had lots of kids, so we decided to sign another lease and move into a 2 bedroom with a study. It was perfect for the time being, both kids had their own rooms, it would work for a year.

April 2010 - we find out we have a baby on the way. Oh my gosh! We decided that since we didn't know what kind of baby Avery was going to be and we needed her to be close to our room for a while, the kids would share the big room and Avery would move into the small bedroom.

This year, when our lease was coming up again, Jason lost his job again. We were very close to just moving in with my parents, but decided we could stick with where we were. So, here we are....

The kids sharing that room is starting to get a little old. First of all, none of their stuff matches, its a huge chore to keep clean and organized and they argue a lot about being confined in that room together. I just have to start getting things to where they are easily organized, since Little Missy is going to be crawling soon. So, we decided Jordan would move into the study and the girls would share a room. Sophia is thrilled and now, since their toys are going to be shared, I can have more options for organization.

We didn't know what to do with Jordans room. We have a twin bed with no box spring, mismatched furniture, no bedding...how am I going to decorate his room with hardly any budget?

Thanks to blogging, I have lots of ideas. We already have a dresser and nightstand in his room, and on Saturday we drove past a church sale who practically begged us to take this desk. I decided to spray paint them white with black designs (I started the desk already) and then at Ikea, I found a cheap bedspread and sheets. I am so excited to do his room! I am showing you the furniture before as a tease. I was going to do some work on them this weekend, but the stupid rain made it impossible. So now the weather is better, let the painting begin!

I am so thankful to be a part of the blogging community. I never used to know how to decorate. I thought everything cute had to be expensive. I had to take things the way they looked. But now, I see stuff and I am like, "I could paint it like this..." The Nester talks about having a home you love. I never spent too much time decorating this apartment because it was our temporary home. But now, I know I need to invest some time and effort making it our own, so it can be our temporary home we love to be in. And a home that Jordan and Sophia love to come to, where their room is theirs.

I have alot of ideas for Jordan's room, I can't wait for everyone to see the final product! Stay tuned!

Why I am Pro Universal Healthcare and Changes to Our Healthcare System

Due to my recent proactivity with my credit and paying off debt, I decided to give the hospital a call where I was admitted about a month ago and ask about my bill. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the mail and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be paying for my stay. I get on the phone with the billing department and the woman is just as nice as can be, really. She was surprised I'd even called her, considering I didn't even have a bill yet. She told me she'd sent the bill over to my insurance to be approved and paid but they hadn't heard back yet. "Just out of curiosity," I asked, knowing I would be responsible for 20% of the final bill, "how much was it?" What I heard next shocked me.   "$61,000" she said.   I said, "$61,000? I was only in the hospital for a night and only on anti-biotics, you can't be serious! My daughter cost me less than a third of that to give birth to and I was in the hospital two nights!...

Some Changes...

We've been going through a bit of a transition at the Whitehead household the last month or so. I haven't really talked too much about it because I wasn't ready, to be honest. It's just a lot of change and I've been trying to figure it out in my head.   As of three weeks ago last Friday, I am no longer a full time work out of home employee.   I can't believe I just said that.   It's been the plan for several months now for me to go into real estate and it was always assumed I'd be doing that part time, while keeping my full time job. Plans kind of changed when Jason got his promotion. He'd always has a job that allowed him a lot of flexibility. In sales, especially after you've been in a position for a while, it just sort of happens that way. He could take Avery to daycare and pick her up, he could take her to doctor's appointments, he could even do chores around the house in the afternoon, while I was at work. I had some flexibi...

That "Thing" in That Basket Isn't a Baby, You Know That, Right?

I have had the most horrible case of writer's block lately! With that said, I saw this article on Babycenter and I just had to write something about it.   So, we've heard of the trend of eating the placenta after birth . We've heard of the trend of putting them in pill form to get the nutrients . But this? This to me, is just the craziest of them all.   As a group of beings on this planet, I've never seen any other mammal who evolves to get to a certain place, then de-evolves on purpose, to be more "natural." I am sure I am seriously about to put my foot in my mouth, I am sure there are (some) people out there that I might offend with my "closed-mindedness" on this topic. But this is just, well, ridiculous to me.   Basically, after the placenta comes out, instead of cutting the cord and detaching it from the baby, you leave the placenta on, they salt it to help with the decomp process, add rosemary (I am guessing for the smell?), then p...
