Marriage - An Outdated Institution?

I found this article on Yahoo! today and it really made me think. Actually, I think about marriage alot now that I am married. Not about my marriage, per se, but what marriage means and what it stands for. The article is really not pro or against marriage, it is just stating some statistics and thoughts of people who are "semi-happy" in marriage and why people get divorced or have affairs.

One Year Wedding Anniversary

I am trying very hard to keep my blog posts to one a day, so I am going to interupt my blog challenge for today to talk about our weekend. I have been married one year today. Its been great and its been tough! Not tough because we fight or anything, just because of our circumstances. I've already talked about that, so I won't go into more detail. But I can say with all certainty that I picked the right man for me. If Jason and I didn't make such a good team, this year could have easily torn us apart, but it actually made us stronger and better as a couple. We really learned to work together. All I can say is thank goodness for God's timing and for bringing Jason into my life!! So, last night my company had their annual banquet. It was free food, drinks and dancing and it was great fun!! We really enjoyed ourselves. I love it when we get to spend time alone and we had a neat chance to do that this weekend. We slept in today and then went to brunch. I got the small ...

The 16 Ways I Got Through the First Year of Marriage

I am taking part in a blog challenge....care to join me? Today's challenge: Write a List! My one year wedding anniversary is coming up in three days. It has been a very eventful year for me and my husband, to say the least! I can't help but think how well we got through it, but how did we do it? I thought you all might be interested in seeing the 16 ways we got through the first year of marriage. 1. We laughed. A lot. At our circumstances, at ourselves, at situations. If we didn't laugh, we would have cried!!! 2. We took each other's faults with a grain of salt. 3. We appreciated each other's contributions on a daily basis. I don't think a single dish would have gotten washed if it wasn't for my husband! 4. We stopped lying and appreciated the other person telling the truth. We also became very truthful with our families. 5. We didn't wish our lives to be what they weren't or wish to have other people's marriages. We were happy with what we had/h...

Patience is a Virtue

"Love is patient, love is kind..." Probably one of the most recognized verses of the Bible, even for non-Christians. We put this on cards, we read it at our weddings, we have it on decor around our house. But how often do we put it in to practice? Living with someone, day in and day out, can be very trying of your patience. When your spouse puts their clothes on the floor instead of the hamper, which is only 2 inches away (and I am not talking about Jason here). Or when your husband watches his movie a little too loud and it disturbs the show you are watching in the bedroom. Or when you hear a constant sound they make. All of that certainly tries your patience. It's very easy to lose your patience with a spouse, and it's weird because it just sort of, sneaks up on you. You go from being fine to being completely ridiculously impatient with this person and everything that is happening is just getting on your nerves! In times of impatience, it is important we pray fo...

Being a Good Listener

"Nagging." "Attacked." "Controlling." These are all words that have been used to describe me over the last few months. It's very hard to hear things like this from your husband, especially if you think they aren't true. Hearing these words actually spurs on more fighting because it aggravates me that he would say I am being like that to him. Nevertheless, these words are Jason's reality. He is not someone that is manipulative or uses words as a way to get me to do things, so when he says he feels like I am being a nag or he feels like I am attacking him, it's important that I listen, no matter how hard it might be. Sometimes, in a marriage or relationship, it's easier to accept that a person shouldn't feel that way instead of that they do feel that way. "My intent is not to nag you, I just want you to know..." "I am not being controlling, I just think you should..." "You shouldn't feel like I am attack...

The Power Of Prayer in Marriage

Jason and I are newlyweds, going through the trials of the first year of marriage. We are also a couple that is expecting. We are also a couple who have both changed jobs this year. We have had alot of things happen to us in the last 7 months. When Jason and I got together in the beginning, I had convinced myself that I had alot of wisdom when it came to relationships. I was by myself for so long and had been through so many heartbreaks and bad situations when it came to guys that I thought when I met Jason, I had it all figured out. I really thought that since I was older when I got married and was "wiser" that I was going to be immune to alot of the things people go through in relationships. I had seen friends get together and break up, watching as they went through their trials and I told myself I learned a few things along the way. I knew the importance of keeping your sense of humor. I knew the importance of spending time with friends as an individual. I knew what coul...

More Wedding Pictures

I am trying to upload more pictures and these are the only ones that will cooperate so far. Uggh.

Wedding Pics

Isn't my stepdaughter the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? I am so glad she got this shot. She is GREAT at finding little shots like this. Sophia makes this picture beautiful. Ah, the guys. Jordan lost two front teeth this week so he did NOT want to smile! Love love love it! I would get married again JUST to get this picture. This is one of the most favorite pictures I have ever had.

March 27, 2010 - The Day That Changed My Life Forever

My wedding weekend was interesting, to say the least! I took off Friday and we went up to the facility to decorate with the all the girls in my family, my sisters, mom, and aunt and mother in law and sister in law. Reagan also stopped by to help! The facility looked really amazing – my mom was the decorator extraordinare and did such a great job of making everything look great. My colors were black, white and pink. We had white tulips everywhere, the cake was black and white, and of course, my mom had plates and table settings and linens from the many, many events she has helped with or hosted over the years. It was finally coming together! That evening, I spent the night with my parents. One last evening with them before the big day. It was just a blur of activity, with me not really being able to focus on any one thing. I was nervous about the next day. I wanted to get through it all and just get to the reception! I have never really been an excited “bride to be.” You know me, le...

God knows

It's been a while, so I thought I would write a blog. I have some things to say, so I thought, why not write them in my blog? It's funny how when you start to seek God, He shows up. In areas that you wouldn't imagine. Lately, we have been attending our new church home, Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. We joined a couple of months ago and have really enjoyed being a part of what is going on there. We've been trying to seek God more in our actions and in our decisions. It's not always easy, but I have to say I have sought God more in these last few months than I have in the last 12 years. Well, seek and ye shall find. I was at work, of all places, where I didn't realize there were so many Christians. I started talking more about being a Christian, using God in regular conversation, and to my surprise, more people began to use it with me, and before too long, I feel like there are good Christian people there that I can talk to about things. One day last week,...

Jason

I haven't blogged in a while, for anyone who is keeping count. I got kind of tired of it for a while. But, I am back. I really don't have a whole lot of interesting things to say....so maybe I will brag on my honey for a while. Every couple of weeks, I have this overwhelming feeling of appreciation for my fiancee. I always appreciate him, but the last couple of days, I feel not only appreciative of him, but also blessed and joyous about the fact that God chose him to be my partner for life. Jason and I have a whole lot of fun together, even though we have been saving money and paying for things lately and been sitting around the house. We play games, we watch TV, we watch movies, we play Rock Band. It doesn't really matter what we do, I just love being with him. He makes me feel important, he makes me feel loved every minute of every day, he makes me feel like I can do anything. He tries his hardest to make me happy and to be forgiving of my faults. He is there to support...

My Beautiful New Family

Last year, actually on New Year's Eve, I called my dad sobbing because of how sad I was that was spending another holiday alone. I told him I was lonely and upset that I might never find anyone. I told him I felt hopeless of ever finding love. Isn't it funny how life works out? God knows our paths and knew, in that moment of hopelessness, I would find Jason 3 months later. Not only that, He knew I would also have two beautiful children I would have the honor to help raise. What a blessing that was! My relationship was completely unexpected. Had I only known Jason was coming, I don't know that I would have acted such the fool only 3 months before. It reminds me in life of all the time we jump to conclusions, or think things are so bad or will never get better, and suddenly, we look up and they are. I am so glad to have Jason, Jorden and Sophia in my life. I am glad for my new extended family, Robert, Shari, Scotty, Faith, Isom, Robert, Kadin, and Jax. I am also blessed by my...

Decorating Our First Christmas Tree

We came home from my parents, with borrowed Christmas decorations and presents in hand, with a determination to decorate Jason's house, put up the Christmas Tree, and wrap the kids' presents for when they came over on Thursday. We were so tired and so hungry, but we wanted to get it done. There is nothing better than relaxing at home on the couch to the glow of Christmas tree lights. This is our first Christmas together so it was a really great experience. We took turns decorating and took some pictures to commemorate the occasion. I have to admit, I haven't always been good about taking pictures, so sometimes I forget to take them and don't always think of great poses or what not, but it's one of my pre-New Year's resolutions so I will get better. I am so thankful and cannot wait for the kids to come over and get excited!

5 Things I Look Forward To The Most About Being Married To Jason

Jason, I love you. I love every bit of you and one day I will devote a blog just to you in your wonderful goodness. But what do I look forward to the most about being married to you? ( Not being married. Being married TO YOU. ) 1) You are my best bud and I look forward to sharing my life with you. You and I have so much fun together and I love just hanging out with you. I love that for the rest of my life I have my built in buddy that I get to do even the most mundane of chores with because we still have fun. 2) Seeing what our kid(s) will look like. I can't wait to see him or her and watch them grow up with you! You are such a great dad and I can't wait to have a child we made together and be apart of their lives together. 3) Having someone by my side every night when we go to bed and every morning when we wake up. That's so cool. 4) Spending holidays together. I have never experienced that before in any relationship and I am so happy that you are the one I get to ...

Shopping, Cheesecakes, and Rings, Oh My!

I think Jason and I have known for a while that we were "meant to be." We had talked about getting married several times before, but how it was going to happen was going to be a complete surprise. I had never really thought about how I was going to be proposed to, I just knew that I wanted my family to be there and I wanted it to happen in a public place. Well, as of Monday evening, we are officially engaged! Jason really loves me and paid attention to what I wanted. I got to share this wonderful moment with all of the people I love, it was certainly a memory I will keep forever. I had decided to take the day off and meet my sisters, aunt and mom for a day of shopping. Since we were all going to be away from home, Jason decided he would ask my dad and Brooke’s husband to play golf that day. It was an absolutely gorgeous day! We decided to go eat dinner at The Cheesecake Factory in Frisco. To my surprise, when we walked in, there was my dad, brother in law, and boyfriend. J...
