Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Out There!!  I saw a picture on my "memories" on Facebook this morning and it reminded me that 9 years ago on Thanksgiving, I brought home a two day old 6 lb baby named Avery Grace Whitehead. It was so cold that day - the whole week hadn't been cold, but that day, it was. She looked so tiny and I couldn't believe I was now in charge of another human being!  One of my favorite stories in the whole Bible is in Joshua 4. At this point, Moses had died and Joshua was leading the Israelites into the land of Canaan. They'd be wandering in the desert for 40 years at this point and gone through A LOT. Remember - they'd be slaves in Egypt but escaped slavery with just a little bit of God's help and survived in the desert with just a little bit of God's provision (obviously, I'm being funny - the entire reason any of that happened was entirely because of God). The Israelites had to cross the Jordan River, which flows just south of

Frozen II - A Review

When I saw Frozen  Thanksgiving week of 2013, I knew that the movie was incredibly special. I hadn't heard much about it and I had no idea what to expect - but the moment Idina hit those notes of THAT song (no need to say it, we all know "that song,") I knew this movie was hands down, one of the best animated movies I'd seen. The humor was top-notch, ALL the songs were on fleek (are people still using that term?), and for once in the Disney universe, the focus wasn't on princesses falling in love, but being there for one another. The movie was beautiful, there was a twist ending - I mean, the movie had it all. It was also one of the first movies Avery sat through at a theater at the time - she was 3 - and on the way back from visiting her grandparents in San Antonio, we had already downloaded the album and listened to it numerous times by the time we got into DFW.  Without a doubt, the first Frozen movie was lightning in a bottle - these things just don'

Avery's Birthday Party - An Anniversary of the Day Our Lives Changed Forever.

Avery still has two more weeks until her actual birthday, but because it always lands in Thanksgiving week, I try to have it earlier so more kids can come. This time, I decided to have her birthday at my new apartment. It's been about 4 years since I had a birthday party for her at my house....and it's been over a year since I've had people over for a party, period.  Despite the gas line not working in the courtyard area for my great idea of doing s'mores around the fire pit in my courtyard, the kids had a fabulous time. Adults did too! It was SO nice to have friends over again, for Avery and I, both. We are always the hostesses...so it's nice to be able to do that again. Last year about this time, I was selling my house and moving in with my mom and dad.  The year before that, two years ago, was when my life fell apart.  Not to totally hijack my child's birthday celebration, but Avery's birthday party day will always be a Memorial Ston

Studying the Bible Series Part 1 - Do YOU Think the Bible is boring?

As we are headed into Spring, Easter is now right around the corner. For many people, this is a return to remember Christ and what He did for us. I wish everyone remembered it all year round! But there are some of us out there who have the beginnings of a walk with God and haven't moved forward past that first step of accepting Him into our hearts. I see questions like, "How can I have more faith?" "How am I certain of what God wants for my life?" When it gets down to it, there's one thing many people are missing and that's how to study and understand the Bible. Prayer is only a part of our walk with God - without studying His word, you will never fully have the faith and understanding of God. In my personal life, I have known the Lord since I was little and been going to church since before I was born (thank you Mom!) but it wasn't until I was 33 years old that I fully began to understand the Bible and how to read it. 33 years - and I grew up i
