Goodwill Goodies and Corner Redo

In case you can't tell, this space was ready for a redo. It had become our Rock Band storage space, our "let's put this random thing here" corner, and our general "nothing really goes here but we will put it here anyway" space. We had a lamp on top of that bookcase for the longest time, even though there is not a plug in sight. I think one of us just put it there one day while we were moving things around and it just stayed.

I went to Goodwill yesterday and bought all of these great items for 99 cents each. The candle was brand new, still wrapped. Some of the things needed to be painted, but some of them were fine just as they were.

I decided now would be a good time to paint some other things I needed to paint as well. So I pulled out a charger and some candlesticks and I went to work. I did prime all of these items that needed it because I wanted the white paint to cover nicely. It still is not easy doing this to rod iron without getting it all over you. But I did it.The charger you see here is going to be painted with my Cappucino paint that matches the rest of the stuff in my living room, but I ran out last night at around 10:15. So, that's waiting.

And here is the finished corner! As you can see, the "CREATE" sign is chalkboard paint. I literally took an old picture decor Jason had when we got married and painted the glass chalkboard paint. I left the frame alone because I kind of like the rustic look. I will be hanging that mirror that's on the ground at some point. I painted that basket with the Cappucino spray paint and moved some of the older photo albums into our bedroom closet. Not sure what goodies I want to put in that basket yet....

You can probably see a weird jar of something on the top shelf. That would be our wedding sand. We opted not to do unity candles and did unity sand instead. Now, it is something we can put on display, until one of the kids knocks it over, which I am sure will happen at some point. The pictures on either side are me and my family and his family. I thought it was a good symbol of us coming together.

This has got to be my new favorite thing. How gaudy is this? I mean, it is just a little bust of Eros, but it is so something I would have NEVER put in my house before. I just looked up who Eros is and apparently, he is the Greek god of "love and sexual desire." He is looking into our bedroom. I swear, that was not planned. But it's not such a bad thing, huh? And it's not plastic. It feels to be marble because it is heavy! It's kind of chipped on the other side you can't see, but who cares??

This is our family Bible that my mother gave us as one of our wedding gifts. It says "The Whiteheads" on that brass plate on the lower right. I love this Bible.

And I promised you I would show you my whole living room. All in all, I really like how it's turned out. I have decided NOT to rearrange the pictures again. They are really growing on me. :-)

Another picture of the corner....

And here is the whole living room. I live in an apartment, so that is why the walls aren't some spectacular color. I see things here and there I need to fill in (I need some blue accents to match the rug and curtains and the space above the middle window is bare, but I digress!) Molly didn't pose for me in this picture, as you can see. Neither did Bella. She is that black blob by the television. Lazy pups.

Why I am Pro Universal Healthcare and Changes to Our Healthcare System

Due to my recent proactivity with my credit and paying off debt, I decided to give the hospital a call where I was admitted about a month ago and ask about my bill. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it in the mail and I wanted to get an idea of what I'd be paying for my stay. I get on the phone with the billing department and the woman is just as nice as can be, really. She was surprised I'd even called her, considering I didn't even have a bill yet. She told me she'd sent the bill over to my insurance to be approved and paid but they hadn't heard back yet. "Just out of curiosity," I asked, knowing I would be responsible for 20% of the final bill, "how much was it?" What I heard next shocked me.   "$61,000" she said.   I said, "$61,000? I was only in the hospital for a night and only on anti-biotics, you can't be serious! My daughter cost me less than a third of that to give birth to and I was in the hospital two nights!...

Some Changes...

We've been going through a bit of a transition at the Whitehead household the last month or so. I haven't really talked too much about it because I wasn't ready, to be honest. It's just a lot of change and I've been trying to figure it out in my head.   As of three weeks ago last Friday, I am no longer a full time work out of home employee.   I can't believe I just said that.   It's been the plan for several months now for me to go into real estate and it was always assumed I'd be doing that part time, while keeping my full time job. Plans kind of changed when Jason got his promotion. He'd always has a job that allowed him a lot of flexibility. In sales, especially after you've been in a position for a while, it just sort of happens that way. He could take Avery to daycare and pick her up, he could take her to doctor's appointments, he could even do chores around the house in the afternoon, while I was at work. I had some flexibi...

That "Thing" in That Basket Isn't a Baby, You Know That, Right?

I have had the most horrible case of writer's block lately! With that said, I saw this article on Babycenter and I just had to write something about it.   So, we've heard of the trend of eating the placenta after birth . We've heard of the trend of putting them in pill form to get the nutrients . But this? This to me, is just the craziest of them all.   As a group of beings on this planet, I've never seen any other mammal who evolves to get to a certain place, then de-evolves on purpose, to be more "natural." I am sure I am seriously about to put my foot in my mouth, I am sure there are (some) people out there that I might offend with my "closed-mindedness" on this topic. But this is just, well, ridiculous to me.   Basically, after the placenta comes out, instead of cutting the cord and detaching it from the baby, you leave the placenta on, they salt it to help with the decomp process, add rosemary (I am guessing for the smell?), then p...
